Curb Appeal

With buyers hunting for value in a highly competitive market, curb appeal has become increasingly important. Your house may be beautifully decorated inside or possessed of charm and warmth within, but, if its exterior is neglected or unappealing, would-be purchasers may not inquire further.

Giving a house curb appeal may be as simple as cleaning up a yard, mowing a lawn or applying a coat of paint. Here's a short list of some of the things that sellers can do to increase their property's curb appeal and make it more attractive to potential buyers:

Trim lawns and shrubs. Plant brightly blooming flowers along walkways to make the property more eye-catching. Ensure that the lawn, driveway and walkway are free of weeds. A little bit of landscaping can go a long way!

Have a look at the house's exterior. Has it been painted recently? (According to a recent study by the National Association of REALTORSŽ in the United States, white homes sell the fastest - at least in the U.S.!)

Make sure there are no holes and cracks in the driveway and walkway and that oil stains in the driveway have been cleaned up.

Check to see that the roof is in decent condition. Does it sag? Any missing shingles to be replaced? And what about the gutters and downspouts? Are they free of debris that can cause blockages?

A little attention to your home's exterior appearance may be just what it needs to give it the competitive edge.
