Richard Thyssen returned to the Board of Directors after an absence of ten years in 2004. A native of Sarnia, Ontario, Richard joined the Association in 1985 and was elected to the Marketing Division Board of Directors in 1990. Rising through the ranks of the Marketing Division, Richard became President in 1992 and continued to sit on the Marketing Division until 1995 – as a member of the Division’s Executive, he sat on the Board of Directors from 1991 through 1993. He returned to the Marketing Division in 1998 and 1999, the same year he received an Outstanding Service Award.

Richard has sat on many committees, including the Constitution and Bylaws, Discipline, Entertainment, Computer, Education, Finance, Christmas Party Committee, Golf, Membership, Membership Plus, PAC and MLS® Systems Committees. He also chaired the Branding Task Force and sat on the Electronic Key Pad, OREA/CREA Conference, MLS® Rules & Regs/Policies, and Business Partners Task Forces. Richard has also acted as an Orientation Guide for a number of years.

In 2008, Richard sits on the Executive Committee, the PAC Issues Advisory Group, and the Grand Theatre Task Force.

Richard makes his home in Delaware along with wife Colleen, the Manager of Employee Relations and Development for Comcare Health Services, and their young son Liam. Richard enjoys hockey, skiing, canoeing and golf and has been active in Big Brothers and has served as a Director of Dads Can, an organization that promotes responsible and involved fathering by supporting men's personal development into fatherhood and healthy fathering patterns in our society.
